Clavariadelphus griseoclavus L. Fan & L. Xia sp. nov. 2020

Holotype: CHINA. Shanxi Province, Pangquangou National Forest Park, 37°49ʹ5ʺN, 111°28ʹ34ʺE, 1800 m, 29 August 2018, on soil among decomposing litter under the mixed forest dominated by Pinus tabuliformis and Quercus wutaishanica, J. Yang LH286A (BJTC FM964).
Morphological description
Basidiomata 70–130 × 10–15 mm, subcylindric to clavate, slightly tapering downward, apex obtuse, surface smooth when young, rugose to rugulose at maturity, color of the upper part grey-white when young, grey to greyish at maturity, grey-white to pale white towards base. Basidia 87.5–132.5 μm in length, thin-walled, narrowly clavate to clavate, apically inflated at maturity, becoming broadly clavate, 10–17.5 μm diam, basal clamp connections present, tetrasterigmate, sterigmata (5–)7.5–10(–12.5) μm in length. Basidiospores 10–11 × 5–6.5 μm, Q (L/I) = 1.33–2.10 (Qm = 1.89) (n = 60), ellipsoid to narrowly ellipsoid, smooth, thin-walled, inamyloid, with a prominent apiculus, hyaline in KOH and lightly staining in Congo Red. Leptocystidia 75–112 × 2.5–6 μm, mixed among the basidia, scarcely projecting beyond the basidia, cylindrical, subcylindrical, strangulated, flexuous, sometimes apically branched, or inflated, occasionally with inclusions. Basal clamp connections present. Context hyphae 5–11 μm diam, parallel, septate, rarely inflated, hyaline in KOH.
Habitat: on soil among decomposing litter under the mixed forest dominated by Pinus tabuliformis and Quercus wutaishanica
